Students work with blending, segmenting and manipulating phonemes within CV, VC, CVC syllable types to develop true syllable awareness. In the revised edition, instruction begins at the phoneme level within syllables. This new version includes various ideas for providing metalinguistic instruction to deepen children’s understanding of Spanish and to support cross-linguistic analysis in dual language classrooms. Each lesson includes a Skill Focus, detailed teacher language, modeling, and support that can be used to provide differentiated instruction and intervention. The kindergarten curriculum is based on age specific learning goals and has been designed keeping in view the educational trends and needs of children. The lessons provide students with systemic exposure to Spanish sounds and syllables to deepen their understanding of spoken words. The rationale for the Kindergarten Curriculum is to provide through play and use of creative learning and teaching approaches a positive learning experiences to learners at this level so as that they are ready for school. The revised 2022 Edition of the Spanish Kindergarten Curriculum includes lessons that are quick and fast-paced, using a reduced number of words for some skills. Our KG One and KG Two has a formal program which involves holistic learning through play. This has been carefully designed to integrate the foundation for Year One. Students will blend, segment, and manipulate both phonemes and syllables. The Early Childhood Education Department (ECE) follows the Early Years Foundation stage curriculum (EYFS) which starts in KG One and the KG Two.

Our Spanish curriculum focuses heavily on developing syllable awareness and includes phonemic awareness work within syllables. The curriculum includes foundational literacy skills that will support literacy development in Spanish and can transfer to English with strategic metalinguistic instruction. “The Red Book”, as it’s often called, is intended for students who are learning to read Spanish: in either dual language, immersion, or transitional bilingual classrooms.
